Heart Ball Luncheon at the McMahon Home

Heart Ball Committee at McMahon Home

This photo was taken at a luncheon hosted by Grandma McMahon (Joseph McMahon's wife) at the house in McLean. The event was part of organizing efforts for the Heart Ball—a fundraiser for heart health causes in Northern Virginia.

A few well-known names were there, including Mrs. William Rehnquist (her husband would later become Chief Justice of the U.S.), along with Mrs. Leslie Schulyer, Mrs. Austin Williams, and Mrs. Ralph Wells. They were all part of the planning committee for the event.

It’s a great reminder of how involved our family has always been in community service, even in quiet ways. Grandma opened her home, connected with other women doing good work, and helped raise money for an important cause—no spotlight, just genuine generosity.

Seeing this makes you realize how much history lives in the small moments: a lunch around the table, people working together, and the simple act of showing up for something meaningful.
